It seems like every new year people say they're going to start

Loosing weight and working out strengthening their heart

Some promise they will get back in church and spend time in prayer

Or find someone with a need and from their abundance share

I don't make resolutions because I'm afraid I'll be

Trying to become someone I know isn't me

This year I have decided to make a promise to myself

I won't leet the words of others keep me sitting on the shelf

I will only listen to what God has to say

As he walks beside me and guides me day by day

I have wasted too much time listening to negativity

So starting now I give myself permission to be ME
